Montenegro Airlines

Montenegro is the national carrier of Montenegro, with the headquarters at the Podgorica airport. The airline was launched in 1994, and the first flight took place in May 1997 on the Podgorica – Bari route. Nowadays Montenegro offers cheap flights on the regular and season routes, of which there are more and more year to year. Currently Montenegro flights to Paris, Frankfurt, Belgrade, Zurich, Rome and other, additionally it flights to London, Dusseldorf, Saint Petersburg and Lyon from April till October every year. What is more, in the pre- and off-season periods, the carrier offers numerous charter flights to major European cities.

Baggage

Each passenger may carry on board one piece of baggage of given weight and dimensions. Before the take off the baggage may be checked in the dedicated baskets. If it is too big or too heavy, it will have to be repacked to the checked baggage. In the hand baggage there is also an umbrella, electronic device and pram included. Depending on the reservation class, the quantity of free checked baggage varies. In the business class, there are two pieces, in the economy class – one piece. In the business class, the suitcase may also be a bit heavier.

Reservation classes

In Montenegro, there are two main reservation classes: economy and business. One of the main differences between them is the maximum weight of baggage, which can be taken with you for no additional fee – in business class, it can be heavier. When booking a flight in economy class, the passenger may choose one of the three tariffs: Promo, EcoRes, and EcoRelax. The first two tariffs are the most attractive in the terms of price, however, there are also many restrictions on the change and cancellation of the reservation prior to, during and after the take-off. All these services are available in Eco Relax tariff and in the business class. For passengers under 24 and 60+ EcoRelax is the most favorable, they can receive up to 20% discount for a flight. 

Online check-in

Online check-in is not available in Montenegro, but it is easy to do it at the airport. The carrier encourages its passengers to arrive at the airport two hours before the take-off, so the check-in goes smooth and to prevent the flight delays, that could cause the further change of the timetable. Remember, that the gates are closed 30 minutes prior to flight time, and the passengers who will fail to pass the check-in on time, will not be able to board.

Fleet

Since 2000 Montenegro’s fleet has been undergoing the modernisation process. It started by buying modern Fokker 100 plane. Its leading feature is the innovative navigation system, enabling the pilot to land even with no visibility. In line with the development and the increasing number of passengers, in 2007 the carrier decided to purchase bigger aircraft– Embraer 195. They are equipped with the latest technology electronics, ergonomic interior, they also stand out by its high efficiency. FADEC technology used in Embraer 195 optimizes fuel consumption, which guarantees savings and longer life cycle of the engine. This way the carrier offers its passengers flights in the comfortable and technologically advanced fleet. 

Podgorica airport

Podgorica airport is one of two international airports in Montenegro, located 12 kilometers south of Podgorica city center.  At first, it had only one terminal, but at the beginning of the XXI century due to the growing number of passengers, the decision was made to build a new terminal. The old one was to serve only charter flights. Since 2006 the new terminal serves the arrivals and departures of about one million passengers annually. It is a technologically advanced building made of aluminum and glass. Inside there is a Costa Coffee stand, duty-free shop, bank desk and a few smaller shops/stands.  You can feel safe there, as there are many safety cameras. The old terminal has been renovated and nowadays it serves VIP flights.

Meals

Information about meals cannot be found on the carrier’s website. Montenegro however, enables its passengers to carry food on board, so if the flight lasts longer than a few hours, it's worth to take some snacks or to visit the duty-free shop before the flight. In other airlines, there is a snack bar available onboard. What's more, some airlines offer hot meals, served during the long haul flights – in this situation you should order the meal prior to the take-off.

Additional services

Montenegro flights can be nicer with ”Luxury Inflight magazine”. It's the carrier's magazine published in Croatian and English, with a lot of interesting information about tourism and culture. The next additional service in the Frequent Flyer Programme. Its participants get flight miles for every flight, which can be later exchanged for free flight tickets. The carrier updates the special flight offers, being very favorable in terms of price. Some of the tickets are sold at the discount to all of the passengers, seniors and students get additional discounts or cheaper tickets, up to 20% less.
