Frequently asked questions

Can airfares be refunded?

It depends on the carrier and the fare selected at the time of booking. If you’re travelling with a low-cost airline, this isn’t always possible unless you have a special, flexible fare (e.g. Flex). This is more common if you’re flying with a traditional airline, but they may be a handling fee deduction. Wondering if fares can be cancelled due to sudden illness or an accident? We suggest purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to make sure you’re covered for this.

What are the best days to book flights?

It’s commonly believed that it’s best to book flights on certain days (e.g., on Tuesdays). Although airlines used to release tickets on set days, today algorithms change prices dynamically throughout the week based on demand. The departure date is now much more important than the booking date with statistics proving that mid-week flights (Tuesday to Thursday) are much cheaper than those on a weekend (Friday to Sunday).

What does a flight ticket look like?

Unlike the old paper tickets, most airlines now use electronic tickets (e-tickets), which you’ll be sent by email in the form of a PDF. You’ll also find these in many of the airline’s apps with an option to download it to your phone. They will include the most important information including; your unique flight reservation number (or PNR code), the passenger’s first and last name, and the flight route. You won’t be able to board the plane with this ticket so you’ll need complete the online check-in process to get your boarding pass.

How do I search for cheap flights?

How do I buy flight tickets?

The fastest and most convenient way is to book via a flight search engine such as eSky. All you need to do is enter your departure airport, travel destination, dates and number of passengers, then click ‘search’. This will bring up a list of available connections from different airlines (low-cost and traditional). Next, you’ll need to choose a flight that suits you based on price and departure times before filling in the passenger information (all your details must be identical to those on your ID card or passport). There will also be an option to add extras such as checked baggage and seats. Once you’re booking is complete, you’ll receive a confirmation email — then it’s time to start counting down to your trip.

How do I rebook fight tickets?

The rebooking process is the quickest online – simply look for the ‘Manage booking’ tab on the airline's website or app. You can usually change the flight date and route but this may incur an extra fee. If you’re travelling with a low-cost airline, the amendment fee is often more than the ticket price so it’s worth booking a flexible fare. Those travelling with traditional carriers will need to check with the airline as changes will depend on the fare as the cheapest options (economy class) don’t always allow you to make changes.

What is the best time to book flight tickets?

There are lots of myths around when’s the best time to book flights (e.g., early in the morning around 3am). However, modern airlines rely on advanced dynamic pricing, which means prices are based on supply and demand, and not the time you book. If you want to bag the best flight deals, we suggest you start looking a few weeks before you want to fly.

How do I check flights?

You can easily check the status of your flight by visiting the airline’s website or logging into their app. Or if you have the flight number you can quickly look it up online too. Another popular way to track air traffic is flight radar, which shows you flights in real time. This is great if you’re meeting a loved one at the airport as it also notifies you of any delays.

Can flight tickets be resold?

No. Flight tickets are typically non-transferrable as they are tied to your identity, which means the name on the ticket needs to match the passenger’s ID card or passport. If you want someone else to fly in your place, the airline will need to do a name change. There is usually a fee to do this and it can be pretty expensive, especially if you’re flying with a low cost airline as it can often exceed the cost of a new ticket.

Do I need to print out my flight ticket?

You do not need a printed copy of the flight ticket (i.e., an email confirming your booking). But you may need to print out your boarding pass, depending on the airline you're flying with. You’ll get this once you complete the online check-in process with the option to print or download it straight to your phone in the airline’s app. Some low-cost airlines (Ryanair & Wizz Air) are much more restrictive with their rules and may charge extra to issue your boarding pass at the airport if it is not saved in the airline’s app.
