    Zagreb
Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, is home to 767,000 residents, with about 1.1 million in the metropolitan area. It is situated on the northern bank of the Sava River, at the foot of Medvednica. Its historic center comprises the former settlements of Gradec and Kaptol. The city is an important administrative and cultural hub of the country. The humid continental climate brings snow in winter, along with rain and fog in autumn. Spring or summer is the best time to visit, when temperatures are pleasant. Zagreb is also a meeting point for Central European and Balkan cultures.
