Rome
Rome, the capital of Italy, lies on the Tiber near the Mediterranean in the Lazio region. It is the country's largest city, with over 2.8 million inhabitants, and the third largest in the EU. Known as the Eternal City, Rome is filled with monuments such as the Colosseum and St Peter's Basilica. Temperatures reach 30°C in summer and hover around 10°C in winter. The best time to visit is spring and autumn, when the weather is milder. Within the city limits lies the Vatican, the seat of the Pope.
