Yerevan, the capital of Armenia, is one of the oldest cities in Transcaucasia, founded as Erebuni in 782 BC and with a history stretching back more than 2,800 years. Located in the South Caucasus, it is a key industrial, scientific and cultural centre of the region. In Yerevan, Republic Square, the Cascade and the History Museum of Armenia are all worth visiting. The city has a continental climate, with hot summers (up to 35°C) and frosty winters. The best time to visit is spring and autumn, when temperatures are milder.
