Lisbon International Airport, also known as Lisbon Portela Airport, is the largest and most important airport in Portugal and one of the most important in Southern Europe. The port is located just 7 km from the centre of Lisbon and is one of the few in Europe located practically in the city centre. The Portuguese government announced in February 2016 that in honour of the late Portuguese general of aviation, Hemberto Delgado, on May 15, 2016, the airport will be named after him. The Lisbon port was opened in mid-October 1942. During the war, it was a neutral airport, open to both British and German airlines. At that time, it was the centre of smuggling people to / from Europe. Today, connections in all directions of the world are offered by dozens of regular, low-fare and charter airlines. The port has two modern terminals with a number of facilities. Terminal1 is operated by the Portuguese national carrier TAP Portugal, for which the Lisbon airport is a hub, and airlines belonging to the Star Alliance. Terminal2 is mainly used by low-fare airlines, and its main users are easyJet and Ryanair.
In 2015, the airport checked-in over 20.1 million passengers.

Terminal 2
Terminal 2 is totally inadequate. Although the Check in and Security were nice and quick, once through there were not enough seats or places to eat. Ripping passengers off with €2:80 for a small bottle of water is also bad. If due to Security we are not allowed to take water through the least they can do is charge a normal amount for it Air side.

Airport review
Portela airport was great. It took me a while to find the check-in and luggage desks. The airport is pretty big, sprawling and speed out but I liked it. I used the TAP lounge on my return which was excellent: well staffed with good services. I shall use this airport more often - it's a great travel hub.

Return to Heathrow
Duty free ok but lack of brands of cigarettes that I could bring back ,which I didnt and wasn’t allowed to in the end .Small variety of restaurants and not much seating around for such busy terminal

Two sided Airport
Arrivals was good. Departures Terminal 2 was clearly for the budget airlines. Sheep probably get treated better.

Line 208: Cais Sodré / Aeroporto / Eastern Railway Station – runs every day from 0:30 and 5:35
Line No. 705: Estaçao do Oriente / Aeroporto / Areeiro – runs only on business days

Line No. 744: Marquês Pombal – Aeroporto – Moscavide – runs daily

Underground
The airport is served by the red underground line. It runs at a frequency of 6-9 minutes. in hours 5:30-01.00. You can get to the city centre in 15 minutes, and to the train and bus station in 5 minutes. A one-time ticket costs EUR 1.40, and a valid 24-hour network ticket costs EUR 6.
At the airport in Lisbon there are two taxi stands: at the arrivals hall and at the departure hall (taxis standing in front of the departure hall are usually cheaper). The approximate driving time is the centre of Lisbon is 15 minutes, and the price is 15 EUR. However, it is best to set the price with the driver before the journey. When boarding, the taximeter should point to 2.50 EUR. Outside the city, the price per kilometre should not exceed EUR 0.42. At night, in high season, on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, prices are 20% higher. An additional fee for luggage or an animal is 1.60 EUR. The prices given are approximate prices.

From the north: A1 motorway (from Porto to Lisbon) to the second bypass (2 Circular / Segunda Circular).
From the Torres Vedras region: via the A8 motorway, and then CRIL (IC-17) to the 2 roundabout (2 Circular / Segunda Circular).
From the south: Vasco da Gama bridge up to roundabout 2 (2 Circular / Segunda Circular) or by the 25th April bridge to exit Eixo Norte / Sul up to roundabout 2 (2 Circular / Segunda Circular).
From Cascais / Estoril: highway A5, then CRIL (IC-17) to roundabout 2 (2 Circular / Segunda Circular).
