Cyprus Airways

Cyprus Airways is a Cypriot airline whose history dates back to the post-war period. The decision to establish this national carrier was made a the end of September of 1947. Year 2015 saw the inhibit of constant development and pursue of connections on new routes to Europe and to Asia. At that time, the Cypriot government reacted to serious financial problems of the carrier by donating EUR 65 million. After the intervention of the European Commission, which found a violation of the principle of aid and ordered the repayment of subsidies, the carrier declared bankruptcy. After a tender organised in mid-2016, Charlie Airlines acquired the right to use the assets of Cyprus Airways and signed an agreement with the Cyprus Ministry of Finance. Today, you can see aircrafts of the carrier marked with the international IATA code and the abbreviation CY flying over Cyprus. Cyprus Airways offer cheap flights to many European cities, including to Athens, Prague, Zurich and Bratislava. You can also hear about the line in the context of travel to the Middle East such as Tel Aviv or Beirut.

BAGGAGE

At Cyprus Airways, baggage and its weight depend on the class of the purchased air tickets. When traveling with the BASIC class, you can bring hand luggage with dimensions of 35 x 20 x 20 cm on board Cyprus Airways. On top of that, passengers can carry one piece of luggage with them that will travel in the baggage hold. The sum of its dimensions (length + width + height) must not exceed 203 cm, while the weight must be less than 10 kg.

In the FLEX Cyprus Airways class, hand luggage (dimensions and weight) does not change. In addition, however, you can carry a suitcase with dimensions of 55 x 40 x 20 cm and a weight not exceeding 10 kg. On the other hand, checked baggage may weigh up to 23 kg in this Cyprus Airways class. It is worth paying careful attention when preparing suitcases, since the carrier provides surcharges for exceeding the guidelines. You can also purchase the possibility of bringing checked-in baggage. The cost of this service depends on the time remaining until take-off from placement of the order.

PROHIBITED OBJECTS

As with other European airlines, Cyprus Airways prohibit certain items and substances. These include, among others, firearms, radioactive substances, poisons, infectious materials, compressed gases and corrosive substances. The list can be supplemented with new products at any time, so be sure to pay attention to this when buying plane tickets.

BOOKING CLASSES

At Cyprus Airways, booking classes are not as strongly differentiated as they are with other airlines. At Cyprus Airways, the economy class is divided into two variants, BASIC and FLEX. The first option is a basic economy class with no additional privileges, while in the second variant, the purchase of such flight tickets grants us the opportunity to bring an additional suitcase on board, and our checked baggage may have a greater weight. The FLEX variant gives passengers more options for recovering ticket costs in the event of cancellation of flights or other changes due to the fault of the airline as well as the passenger.

ONLINE CHECK-IN

At Cyprus Airways, you can complete online check-in 24 hours prior to departure. The last call to check in is three hours before the scheduled departure of the aircraft. Online check-in at Cyprus Airways involves entering your ID details and printing your boarding pass. You must report with this document and printout at the airport before departure. This will minimise the time spent at the airport before take-off of the aircraft.

FLEET

At Cyprus Airways, the fleet is based around the Airbus A319 aircraft produced by the European consortium. These machines can take more than 140 people on board, and their range is over four thousand kilometres. There are about ten aircrafts in turquoise colours which carry a distinctive logo and operate on several routes.
