Banjul
Banjul, the capital of The Gambia, is situated on St. Mary Island at the mouth of the Gambia River into the Atlantic Ocean. The city was founded in 1816 as a military post under the name Bathurst. Today, it is home to about 34,400 people, while the Greater Banjul area has a population of 357,200. Banjul hosts the country's main seaport and an international airport. The climate is tropical, with hot summers and mild winters, and the best time to visit is the dry season from November to May.
